Following the announcement from Rene Haas, Arm CEO, on the evolution of Arm’s product naming architecture, this blog provides more details about the new platform names, as well as the updated naming and identifiers for the IP underlying the new platforms.
From a platform perspective, the new product naming architecture reflects the unique breadth and capabilities of the Arm compute platform, as well as Arm’s wider shift to deliver more complete solutions that enable our partners to innovate faster and more efficiently. This new naming architecture will only apply to new Arm products, preventing any impact on the developer and engineering communities developing or maintaining technology based on existing Arm products.
Our product offering now extends beyond IP with Compute Subsystems (CSS) and platforms for all of Arm’s key markets – automotive, client, infrastructure, and the edge AI platform for IoT. Details on the new platform names and what they mean are outlined in the table below:
For Arm’s new IP, we are shifting to a simple identifier scheme to differentiate between IP products. However, as noted in the announcement, Mali will remain as Arm’s GPU brand.
The IP identifier will be followed by a number to indicate the product generation and, if relevant, a clear product tier. For IP product generations, we will be resetting product generations back to 1, starting with the next generation of IP. Meanwhile, the new product tiering will make it easier for developers and partners to navigate the Arm roadmap.
Through the new unified product naming architecture, our aim is to improve our ecosystem’s understanding of our compute platforms and IP, while reflecting Arm’s corporate shift to a system-level solutions provider with a platform-first approach.
As a company, our mission remains the same – working together with our ecosystem to build the future of computing for everyone.
Stay tuned to learn how our new product naming architecture is deployed as we launch new IP, platforms and solutions in the year ahead.
